Baumwipfelpfad and Wolfach, Germany
After an amazing time spent exploring the Black Forest last year, we decided to plan a three day stay along a similar route. The highlight of our trip last year was undoubtedly the incredible Treetop Walk, so this experience was at the top of our list of things to do again.
Camping Erbenwald near the village of Liebelsberg was our first stop. The campsite has a wide range of activities to offer for children, including a splash pool, a larger swimming pool, a large play park, and a spacious grassy area for various outdoor games. Additionally, there is an indoor soft play centre, fishing and pony rides. It proved to be a great stop for the kids to play freely and burn off some of their energy. On our way, we took the opportunity to stock up the van with supplies at a Lidl, so we prepared and cooked meals in the van. However, it is worth mentioning that there was also a restaurant located onsite.
Baumwipfelpfad Schwarzwald was only a half hour drive. We booked tickets online and arrived for around 10am to secure a decent parking spot for the van. There is plenty of parking but spaces are tight for longer vehicles. Sam remembered the Treetop Walk and was excited to try the activities. The path winds uphill to the beginning of the 1,250m Treetop pathway that rises up to 20m. We walked along the path pausing at the learning and activity stations. The kids had great fun and no fear!
At the end of the pathway is the enormous tower. The path spirals up 40m with a view beyond the Black Forest to the Stuttgart TV tower, Kraichgau and the Swabian Alb. Sam was keen to hurry back down to the 55m long tunnel slide. The slide cost 2 euros and children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Even though Esme did this last year, she was reluctant to ride. We walked all the way back down the spiral path to meet Steve and Sam, who were waiting smugly at the bottom.
After exiting the trail there is a gift shop, food kiosk and huge adventure park. This cost an additional 5 euro each, but Esme was free. We spent a few hours on the different parks and trails so it ended up being worth the extra money. We had a look around the gift shop which had a selection of local and themed gifts. We bought postcards to send home and Sam used his own money from the grandparents to buy a toy salamander. Esme was tired and had a melt down in the middle of the shop. We carried her out and decided to call it a day!
For our second night we stayed at Campingplatz Trendcamping Wolfach im Schwarzwald, a campsite we have stayed at before. The campsite is set on the hillside was beautiful view over the valley. The facilities are also clean and free! It also has a delicious restaurant and eventhough we planned on cooking we couldn’t resist trying more local food!
Sam also continued his ice cream challenge. He couldn’t say no to a haribo push up lolly. The gummy bears were hard to resist!
