A night at Le Pécos Grandson, Switzerland
On our scenic drive to Chamonix, we decided to take a break and stopped at a lovely campsite on the shore of Lac de Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Our experience of Switzerland has shown us that everything tends to cost more than we might expect, so we made sure to stock up the van with essentials at Hyper U before crossing the border. In addition to that, we also took the chance to visit a few wine shops to build up our load for home.
Sam was truly amazed at the live lobsters and crabs in the local supermarket! We wish our supermarkets back home could have the same extensive selection of fresh produce as what is commonly found in France!
When we arrived at the campsite we were greeted by a friendly couple who showed us to our pitch. The campsite has many permanent residents, and they were all very friendly. Sam was away on his bike while we set up camp and the pathways became a circular race track. He also made a little friend and told him his name in french!
We wanted to make the most of the site, so we decided to head down to the lake with our paddleboards. The lake was shallow quite a distance out, so we paddled over to a pontoon where the kids played on their pretend island, creating their own little adventure.
The campsite was busy but surprisingly relaxed. We were pitched next to the play park, allowing the kids to wander over while we watched them from our camp. The facilities, while a bit dated, were clean and hot. The only downside we encountered was that tokens had to be purchased at reception before heading to the showers. To avoid being caught out, we made sure to buy enough tokens for the morning. Additionally, there was a restaurant located onsite that was open from 8am to 11pm.
As planned, Steve cooked steak along with a salad at the van, and afterwards, we indulged in a selection of cheese and wine. Sam asked if we could have cheese and crackers every night during our trip. Once again, Esme was happy with her pasta, although she decided to break the usual trend and had spag bol instead!
Whilst our time at the campsite was short we thoroughly enjoyed our little rest and the scenery!
